WHY

MATTERS

In a time of mass production and disposable design, we believe in a different approach.

At byhumanhand, we work with artists and makers who create slowly and intentionally; often using reclaimed, second-hand, or forgotten materials. People who value process, craftsmanship and individuality over speed and mass production.

Today, most products are designed to move quickly: fast to produce, fast to ship, fast to replace. Clothing worn only a few times before being discarded. Objects manufactured in endless quantities until they lose all sense of character and connection. Convenience has become the default, often at the expense of quality, craft, and the environment.

Slow fashion offers another perspective. The objects found here are not designed for speed. They are shaped through time, experimentation and human hands. Many pieces begin their life somewhere else — a garment, a fabric, a material once overlooked — before being carefully reworked, reshaped and given a second story.

Every piece carries traces of the process that created it.

A ceramic bowl may preserve the subtle movement of the potter’s hands in the clay. A reworked piece of jewellery may combine materials never originally meant to meet. An upcycled garment may contain small irregularities that no industrial machine would allow.
